Characters: The character of Stephen is portrayed as a broken hearted softy who is having trouble dealing with the break up from his girlfriend. By his actions of viewing the picture of his ex and the way he talks to his frien Rick, the viewer gets the sense that Stephen is a bit weak willed. this trait of his personality is later taken advantage of by the cable guy. The cable guy is portrayed through out the movie from start to finish as a cooky, sort of crazy in a funny wierd way from the way he talks to his sense of humour to his military style haircut. His attitude seems so positive and his outlook on life is extremely optimistic. Hints of loneliness are shown when he offers to take Stephen out to the satelite.

Setting: The setting of the movie is largely the common streets of any city. The apartment that the first scenes are in show nothing out of the ordinary and stephens life seems normal. This can give the viewer the idea that this could happen to anyone. The boxes all across the floor show that Stephen has got other things on his mind so he doesnt really realise that a freak has just walked into his home which in turn results in an awkward and unwanted rtelationship

Direction: The first direction many viewers would think of is that of a love story as in the first few minutes, the ex-girlfriend is mentioned several times. this might be a logical way of thinking had the title of the film not been 'The Cable Guy.' It is then established to the viewer the wierdness of the cable guy and that there is something not quite right with him. The staliking of Stephen becomes clearer and the plot is quickly diverted to the blossoming relationship
